Gemma & Antonio
I was delighted to be involved with Gemma and Antonio’s Christmas time wedding at the very beautiful Iscoyd Park in Shropshire. The bride and groom were being married in Las Vegas but then hosting a celebration back in UK. Gemma and Antonio live in Dubai and so it was a little too far to come for a private consultation! We therefore organised for a sample box to be sent out to them whilst they were over in the UK, visiting family and sorting out wedding plans. They both fell in love with my Coconut and Lime flavour and so we incorporated that into their cake. As very busy people, with the additional complication of trying to organise a wedding overseas it was important that they trusted me to take care of everything.Through chats over the phone and emails back and forth a final design was created for their ‘semi-naked’ cake. We chose to go with fresh flowers as decoration for the cake and they also chose to hire my tall white milk glass stand to give that extra height and wow factor for their cake display.I always try and chat to my couples about the importance of staging their cake, including positioning and table décor, which can make such a difference to the end result. This was crucial for Gemma and Antonio’s cake as it was to be the centrepiece within the entrance room, framed by two beautiful windows and a grand chandelier.Next step was to contact their florist, Red Floral, to organise the exact requirements for their cake decoration. I endeavour to use the same florist selected by the bride and groom as this ensures that everything matches perfectly. We organised to meet up on the morning of the wedding and for me to collect the flowers and place them on the cake myself. Again, I’m passionate, if not a little obsessed, with finishing the cake myself and so will always, wherever possible, place any decorations onto the cake so that I’m comfortable knowing that it looks exactly as it should. I think most people are more than happy with this approach as no-one really wants to take responsibility for the cake!I then contacted Iscoyd Park to organise delivery of the precious cargo. Whilst speaking to venues it’s important for me to discuss times for delivery, location of the cake, best ways to approach (if potholes or ramps are a problem!) and lastly, set up of the cake display.A little further down the line, Gemma and Antonio opted to have an additional sweet / dessert table for their guests and contacted me to ask if I could help. I was able to offer options for them for inclusion and they eventually opted for a selection of macarons, mini victoria sponges, cookies and cupcakes. In the week running up to the wedding Gemma and I touched base just to have a final chat in preparation for the wedding and in no time at all it was their big day! An early start was needed and their cake was transported in sections which I stacked in situ, finishing off with the beautiful wintery fresh flowers. I even got to meet Steve Gerrard, their photographer, who had flown over from Montreal, especially to capture their day. My trip from Staffordshire paled into insignificance!Gemma and Antonio had a wonderful day alongside their guests and I was lucky enough to finally meet them face to face when they dropped back the cake stand just before returning to Dubai. PERFICK!
