David & Kate
I had the absolute pleasure of being asked to create Kate and David’s wedding cake last September, held at the beautiful Dorfold Hall in Cheshire. Kate and David chose my sample box option for their taster flavours as they weren’t local and also very busy people! Following delivery of their box to which they replied “Thanks so much for the samples, they were packaged up so perfectly. We tried them this weekend and loved them! The ginger was a surprise front runner!” we worked together on their final cake design. Kate and David eventually chose flavours of Ginger, Lemon and lemon buttercream, Victoria sponge and strawberry and Chocolate Orange with chocolate buttercream.Through chats over the phone and emails back and forth a final design was created for their four tiered buttercream cake. We worked closely together to ensure that I captured the vision exactly for their wedding day. We chose to go with fresh flowers as a finishing touch and they also chose to hire my white milk glass stand to give that extra height and wow factor for their cake display. Once I had everything I needed I got to work on organising everything, leaving them to trust me that everything was in hand so that they could concentrate on other wedding plans! This trust is really important to me….Next step was to contact their florist, the lovely Helen from Helen Bryan Florist to discuss the flowers needed for their cake. I always try to use the same florist selected by the bride and groom as this ensures that everything matches perfectly. Helen was amazing and I collected the flowers from her the day before the wedding as there was a chance our paths wouldn’t cross on the wedding day. We did in fact meet up again on the day whilst we were both setting up!I then contacted Candice from the wonderful Dorfold Hall to organise delivery of the precious cargo! Whilst speaking to venues it’s important for me to discuss times for delivery, location of the cake, best ways to approach (if potholes are a problem!) and lastly, set up of the cake display. I place everything onto the cake myself so that I’m confident I can leave knowing that it’s perfect. It’s therefore important for me to know that everything will be in situ for when I’m setting up. Kate and David’s cake was being placed in the beautiful marquee.
In the week running up to the wedding I called Kate and David just to have another chat with them and to share in the excitement of their upcoming special day. This is one of my favourite times in the process alongside the actual consultation and initial chats. In no time at all it was their wedding day and it was an early start. Their cake was transported in sections and I stacked it at Dorfold, finishing it off with the beautiful fresh flowers. Kate and David had a wonderful day and jetted off to Italy and the Maldives for a much needed break. They sent me this wonderful note on their return…
“We finally received our wedding photographs and I thought you may like to see a few images of the cake! I think it looks incredible! I wanted to also thank you very much for all of your efforts in putting together our cake. You managed to create exactly what I was looking for visually and the different flavours in the tiers were so delicious. Our only regret is that I wish I had ordered more because we didn’t have much left but I think that shows just how much everyone enjoyed the cake. We would definitely recommend you, and in fact we have recommended you to our friends who are getting married later this year.”
