Choosing a Photographer

The photographic memories of your wedding will last a lifetime and therefore it’s important that you make a good choice for your wedding photographer. Many couples will say that the photographs are the most important reminders of their day and so it’s not worth compromising. You really do get what you pay for, here are my tips and recommendations to help you get it right:

Personality and Style
You must find a photographer that you feel comfortable and confident with and someone who takes photographs in a style that matches your vision. There are many different styles out there from the more classical such as group shots to a more photojournalistic style which capture more natural moments. Ask to take a look at some of their previous work.

Talk to your photographer about any specific shots you would like to capture on your day. Many photographers will know to take the standard shots of cutting the cake or group shots for example but it’s also incredibly valuable to capture more spontaneous shots such as Mum wiping the tears away or Dad having a joke with Uncle Bob. Check on options around colour or black and white too. I just love the way that Cris Lowis from Lowis Photography, a wedding photographer based in Stafford, has captured the facial expression on this little guy.

Nowadays there are many options to presenting wedding photographs other than just the traditional wedding album. Bespoke and digital options can be endless and so talk to your photographer about the options they offer.

Check what is included in their standard packages to help decide what suits you best. For instance, is it a full day package, how many photos will they take, are the digital proofs included in the price and if so how long after the wedding are they available?

My recommendation
Cris Lowis is a photographer based in Stafford, he is passionate about his work and understands how important your day is to you. Cris has photographed couples at many popular wedding venues within Staffordshire including Weston Hall, Moddershall Oaks, The Moat House and many more. His work has been featured in photography magazines and he is a preferred supplier with various wedding venues. Cris took some professional shots of me for The Bake Pod, one of which appears on my Contact page. All of the wedding photographs in this blog post have been taken by Cris, I just love the way he captures the moment, priceless! Check out more of his work at
